Social Work Services

Souris Valley Special Services employs a licensed social worker. The social worker is available to assist with addressing the unique requirements of students with disabilities (3 to 21 years old) in his or her life at home, in school, and in the community.

Duties of the school social worker may include:

* Acting as a referral agent for schools, families, and the students;
* Assisting with the transition between schools and residential treatment centers;
* Mobilizing schools and community resources to enable the student to benefit from his or her educational program;
* Working with problems in the student's living situations (home, school, community) that are effecting the student's adjustment in schools;
* Acting as a liaison between the school system and community agencies; and
* Providing direct support through behavior education.
